Klondike Solitaire

Klondike Solitaire

Uncover the cards and build four foundations by suit.

    About this game

Play Klondike solitaire online with one-card or three-card draws. Build four foundations and use hints while working through a new deal.

    How to play

Build descending columns in alternating colours and move cards to the foundations by suit, from ace to king. Reveal hidden cards by moving the cards above them. Only a king can start an empty column. Choose whether the stock deals one or three cards and configure how many stock redeals are allowed.

    A useful starting tip

Give priority to moves that uncover face-down cards. Before emptying a column, check whether you have a king ready to use the space.

A familiar layout with changing information

Each newly revealed Klondike card can change the plan. You connect descending runs, uncover hidden cards and gradually send suits to the foundations. The stock creates another source of opportunities: its accessible top card may assist a rearrangement or need to wait. Watch columns, waste and the next required foundation rank together rather than treating them as separate games.

Draw one introduces access to stock cards directly. Draw three adds dependence on waste order because an appealing middle card cannot be selected independently of the top. The allowed number of passes is a separate setting worth checking before starting.

Find a move with a continuation

Compare transfers that reveal a card, make the waste playable or free room for an available king. An empty column cannot accept an arbitrary rank, so clearing it alone does not solve the task. Foundations require one suit ascending from ace, while columns alternate colours descending. Check these distinct conditions whenever a placement appears to be rejected unexpectedly.

    Reveal before you decorate

Moving cards to the foundations feels productive, but exposing a face-down card or freeing a column often changes more. Compare the next few moves before sending a low card away. A legal move that reveals nothing may be safe, yet a move that opens information is usually the one that advances the deal.

    Questions and answers

Why can I not put any card in an empty column?

Klondike requires a king or a valid sequence beginning with a king. Clear a column with a plan for filling it.

Why can I not select a card inside the drawn group?

Only the top waste card is available. Play it first if possible to expose the next one; the group's order affects access.

Why will a red card not fit a red foundation?

Foundations follow a specific suit, not just colour, starting from ace. Hearts and diamonds need separate piles.

What should I check before recycling the stock?

Check the allowed redeal count in the game settings. Do not assume unlimited passes when a limited mode is selected.

How do I choose between equally legal transfers?

Check what each reveals. Moving a black seven onto a red eight may expose a hidden card; another seven may instead empty a column for a king. Compare the short continuation of both choices rather than one click. If neither new information nor useful space appears, the transfer may only alter the layout's appearance. Legality and strategic value are separate checks.

How do I avoid confusing columns with foundations?

Columns descend while alternating red and black. Foundations ascend from ace in one specific suit: hearts and diamonds are not interchangeable just because both are red. Before a disputed placement, identify the destination area, then check the next rank and its colour or suit condition. This explains a rejection more clearly than repeatedly trying the same card on every pile.

How is draw three different from a redeal limit?

Draw three determines how cards appear in the waste and which top card is accessible. The redeal limit determines how many passes through the stock are permitted. These are separate conditions, so the draw mode alone does not imply unlimited recycling. Before another pass, check the setting and inspect columns and foundations again: a rearrangement may have made the current waste card playable.
