Your group and turn
This is eight-ball pool. Solids and stripes are assigned after the first legal pot of a group ball. Clear your group before playing the eight. A legal shot potting your own ball keeps your turn; otherwise it passes. Check the group indicator: an opponent's ball falling into a pocket does not complete your own task.
What counts as a foul
Fouls include potting the cue ball, hitting no ball, contacting an illegal target first, or having neither a pot nor any cushion contact after the first collision. The opponent then places the cue ball in a valid free position. Eligibility for the eight is checked before the shot: potting your final group ball and the eight together is not a win here. An early eight or an eight with a foul loses the game.
Prepare the next shot
Choose an accessible group ball and its route to a pocket, then consider where the cue ball will stop. Maximum power can leave a poor next position. Practise similar shots with different power against the computer and compare the result. Use a private room for a friend. These are the rules of 8 Ball Pool Arena; do not assume outside tournament exceptions, including break-shot exceptions, apply here.
Prepare a shot in order
- Check whose turn it is and whether groups have been assigned. The legal first target depends on the current match state.
- Choose an accessible ball from your group and a pocket with a clear route, then inspect the cue ball's path to that target.
- Imagine where the cue ball will stop. A successful pot is more useful if it leaves access to another ball from your group.
- Choose power for the task rather than automatically using maximum. A hard shot can send the cue ball towards a pocket or leave a poor angle.
- Read the game notice when motion ends. After a foul, ball-in-hand placement comes before preparation of the next normal shot.

Why cue-ball position matters
Suppose an easy straight pot is available, but excessive power will send the cue ball to the opposite cushion. Your next target may then be hidden behind other balls. A more controlled shot can leave a clear second contact. Compare not only the chance of potting now but also the accessibility of the following shot.
That does not mean always using minimum power; it may be insufficient. Practise similar positions while varying only power and watching where the white ball stops. If you change target, direction and strength simultaneously, the cause becomes difficult to identify. Computer games give you room to focus on reading the table before inviting a friend.
Diagnose a foul without guessing
Check events in order: was there any contact, which ball was hit first, was a ball potted or a cushion reached after collision, and did the cue ball fall? The notice helps isolate the reason. Potting your own ball does not override other requirements of a legal shot.
Before the eight, separately check that your group is already empty at the start of the shot. Do not import break exceptions or disputed club rules into this version. When both players understand the same conditions, a private match becomes clearer: a turn change or loss follows a specific event rather than an unexplained game decision.
